Project Details

According to the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Rules 1997 (ECR), solar power projects comes under Orange ‘B’ Category and requires site clearance based on IEE report and EC based on IEE report and Management plan. With respect to the same, SSPL is now preparing the IEE report for approval to Department of Environment (DoE), Bangladesh. However, in parallel, the project is also intended to take project financing from international financial institutes, such as Asian Development Bank (ADB) and German Development Finance Institution (DEG). SSPL has engaged ERM India Private Limited (hereinafter referred to as “ERM”) to perform environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) study of the project along with an environmental and social compliance audit and flood likelihood evaluation of the project site. This report presents outcome of the ESIA study. This describes the existing environmental baseline status of 35MW Solar PV study area, covering both the natural and social environments. The project area is located in Baruria, Arua Union under Shibalaya Upazilla in Manikganj District. The geographical location of the project site is: 23°46’52.02”N, 89°49’28.50”E. The analysis was completed through the use of a combination of secondary data sources in addition to extensive on-ground reconnaissance and baseline studies to establish an understanding of the environmental and social baseline of the Project area. ERM, being E&S consultant of the proponent has assigned EQMS to carry out the Environmental Baseline and Monitoring for this Project.
